Overview

The Legal Program Manager is a dynamic and strategic professional responsible for driving operational excellence and optimizing legal processes within the organization. The Specialist will be tasked with implementing Programs designed by the Department lead with a focus on Outside Counsel and Vendor Partner Management. This role is tasked with executing changes to streamline legal operations, operating to budget, tracking initiatives to improve efficiency, and maintaining project timelines.  A successful candidate will be flexible, have a background in legal operations and process improvement. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Work very closely with and undertand obligations aroun Procurement, finance, and reporting
  • Be responsible for reviewing Contracts; specifically, Terms and Conditions and law firm pricing
  • Cross functional collaboration with Procurement, Billing, Strategic Vendor operations
  • Keep up to date on law firm rates and Market Intelligence 
  • Conduct vendor screenings
  • Familiarity with Project Management tools such as Wrike
  • Possess in depth knowledge of Law Firm pricing in the market and how it works
  • Be responsible for documenting Rate Agreements
  • Be a self-starter, proactive and consultative
  • Provide recommendations on case-specific issues, including complex, large-scale, and non-standard requirements and requests
  • Ensure process documentation is up to date and available; provide education and support when needed
  • Serve as a liaison between vendors and counsel
  • Encourage high-quality work product and a service-oriented approach across the discovery team

 

Additional Responsibilities/Details:  

    • Quarterly meetings and reports
      • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings with key stakeholders and internal counsel to address program-level objectives, including process efficiency and vendor performance
      • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings with preferred vendors to align and address any performance concerns and process refinements
    • Facilitate training sessions related to the discovery process, including periodic “refresher” training sessions
    • Educate outside counsel on client’s discovery process as it relates to specific matters and ensure compliance with Outside Counsel Guidelines

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements:   

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
  • JD required

Minimum Experience Requirements:  

  • 7+ years of in-depth eDiscovery experience inside a corporate legal department, at a law firm, or at a discovery vendor (or a combination)
  • 5+ years of management/leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple, concurrent projects involving cross-functional teams operating within budgetary and schedule constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client expectations and maintain client satisfaction

Other Requirements:  

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to anticipate client needs
  • The ability to confront unexpected problems quickly and effectively
  • Relativity or other discovery/legal hold platform experience preferred
