Overview

The DFES Lab Technician provides operational support to the DFES team through the management of the team’s remote mobile device collection kits, forensic lab support, general technical assistance with the team’s IT stack, and support of various initiatives to increase the operational efficiency of the team. The Lab Technician is part of our Digital Forensics and Expert Services team and performs work internally with the team.

 

The Lab Technician will be working from our Chicago office in a fully onsite role, collaborating closely with the team.

 

 

Responsibilities

· Works out of the Chicago office to manage the remote mobile device collection kits including tracking, flashing new base images to the devices, kit digital sanitization, and deploying as requested

· Assist examiners working remotely with accessing department infrastructure and hosts

· Support directed initiatives to increase the operational efficiency of the department

· Provide technical troubleshooting of hardware and software

· Preserve and collect original evidence items to digital format

Qualifications

Preferred Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in forensic computing, Computer Science, MIS or related experience

· Vocational degree in computer technology, hardware, or networking

 

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

· 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in related roles including Helpdesk, computer repair and troubleshooting

 

Other Requirements:

· Experience and competency with computer and mobile device hardware and operating systems

· Good understanding of networks and various digital file formats

· Evidence Management: Familiarity with rules of evidence, ACPO guidelines, ISO17025 and Chain of Custody

· Must be able to be in the Chicago office Monday through Friday – remote work is not an option

· Availability to be flexible with working hours to accommodate urgent requests

· High level of organizational and logistical skills

· Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

· Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team environment

· Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently

 

Preferred Attributes:

· eDiscovery knowledge and experience

· Certification(s) in digital forensics or eDiscovery software

· IT knowledge and experience especially related to computer and mobile device hardware and operating systems and network infrastructure

· Working knowledge of management of information system
